Distressed by her inability to have a child, Mexico City architect Sofía (Ana de la Reguera) descends into a self-destructive cycle of drug and alcohol addiction, testing her relationship with husband José (Enrique Arreola), and sending her life and career off the rails.

With a committed central performance from Ana de la Reguera (Twin Peaks: The Return), Twelve Moons is filled with precisely composed architectural images presented in striking black and white. Intermittent dreamlike flourishes leave open the possibility of redemption, as the film takes us on an unflinching descent towards rock bottom. Writer-director Victoria Franco has been a frequent producer for her brother Michel, whose directorial credits include After Lucia (2012), Sundown (2021), Memory (2023) and Dreams (2025).

Michel co-produces here with Victoria. “The film explores the symptoms of a woman who is going down the wrong path without fully understanding why. I want to portray someone who doesn't fit anywhere and can't handle social conventions. It's an analysis of the lack of empathy toward those who fail to conform to the standard model of success in society.” Victoria Franco
