Ingrid (Julianne Moore) and Martha (Tilda Swinton) were close friends in their youth, when they worked together at the same magazine. Ingrid went on to become an autofiction novelist while Martha became a war reporter.
Eventually, they were separated by the circumstances of life. After years of being out of touch, they meet again when Ingrid learns of Martha’s illness and figure out how to fit into each other’s lives once more.
An intimate adaptation of What Are You Going Through (Sigrid Nunez), Pedro Almodóvar’s first feature film in English brings his signature bright hallmarks to a heavy and difficult topic. Winner of the prestigious Golden Lion award at Venice Film Festival, The Room Next Door sees powerhouse performances of complex and fascinating characters breathe life into the conversation around death.
