104 Mins | 2024 | Australian Premiere | India | Director: Subhadra Mahajan | Feature | Fiction | Country Spotlight India | World CinemaThe Himalayas heal Nia’s heart in this exquisite debut from Subhadra Mahajan.
After experiencing the first major adult trauma, Nia retreats to her family summer home in the Himalayas where she occupies the same space as the caretaker’s mother-in-law, Bhemi, and her grandson, Sunny. Initially, the unforgiving cold of the snow-covered mountains and poor phone reception only add to her isolation and distress. But with time, she forms an unlikely bond with Bhemi, Sunny and a kitten that’s just as lost as her.
Bhemi’s care for Nia and Sunny’s childlike wonder for the world encourage her to heal and think about her future back in Delhi.
Director Subhadra Mahajan’s stunning debut is an ode to the strength and companionship of women – the monochrome photography elevating the simplicity in nature’s healing power and its inherency for second chances.
