Indigenous themed film and television is undoubtedly one of the strongest elements in Australian screen culture these days. Noted writer, actor and director Wayne Blair (The Sapphires) joins us for a conversation about the factors that are generating and sustaining this tremendous body of work. The forum will include an advance screening of the new Blair-directed episode from Season 2 of Blackfella Films’ Redfern Now tv series.
Dogs Of War - A series of burglaries set the residents of Redfern thinking of security. Ernie, a retired Army drill sergeant with a lot of demons (Ernie Dingo) and Toby, a mongrel German Shepherd, are new residents in the community making for a volatile combination. Tensions build and come to the boil, forcing Ernie to face the deepest fears from his past and his future. His neighbours also need to negotiate new ways of making peace with each other.
Wayne Blair, noted director of The Sapphires, directs this much-anticipated episode of Blackfella Films’ second series of Redfern Now.
